Even low doses of steroids increase cardiovascular risks
This is when your optic nerve in your eye becomes damaged due to a build-up of fluid. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are a group of commonly used painkillers. If you want to check that your medicines are safe to take with your medication, ask your Pharmacist or GP. This means that the effects of either medicine can be altered. If you have troublesome side effects, don’t stop taking your medication until your doctor says it’s safe to do so.

Sometimes, when taken in higher doses, steroids can cause confusion or changes in thinking.
What do steroids do?
This means infections are more difficult to diagnose at an early stage. Pneumovax and yearly flu vaccines are safe and recommended, but avoid ‘live’ vaccines such as that used against yellow fever. It is safe to drink alcohol in moderation whilst on steroids, but it may aggravate indigestion and/or promote osteoporosis.
- And live vaccines are considered unsafe in people with low immunity so check with the person giving any vaccine whether it is life or not, and make sure they are aware that you are taking oral steroids.

This is more likely if you are at higher risk of type 2 diabetes. For some conditions, low-dose steroids may be needed for many months or years. One might expect that glucocorticoids would also reduce inflammation in the heart and blood vessels.
